Busy Sweet Jubilee Bees!

IMG_5734

ALL I DO, ALL I DO, ALL I DO, ALL I DO… Whew we’ve been busy! We’ve had two gigs in the past two days.¬†For the first of those, we performed All I Do seven times within approximately two hours! Albuquerque has been oddly warm for January for most the month, but wouldn’t you know the first morning of our performance days, it snowed, and snowed! Now for Albuquerque that means a nice dusting, which is just fine with us. […]

Manhattan_3

It’s ABQLX weekend! Do you know what that means (to us)? Time to debut some new routines! And dance our legs off at the annual lindy hop event for three days! Here’s what we have prepped for tonight and tomorrow. Can Can To choreograph and do a group Can Can routine has been on our to do list since Sweet Jubilee began. The routine was started sometime during the summer, but being summer and a time we’re often out of […]

Vintage Photograph 2014.13

1937 girlfriends sophie_edit

1937 GIRLFRIENDS This week’s Throwback Thursday is another vintage photograph of two girlfriends. These ladies are identified on the back of the photo as Ruth Bindes and Sophie. The year is marked as 1937 in the upper right back corner. This photo was in rough condition when I got it so I decided to test my photoshop skills and took some time to restore it today. The above photo is after quite a bit of work. I could have done […]

Vintage Photograph 2014.10

1940s barbara

1940s Wishing you the Best of Luck This week’s photo is of a young woman posing possibly for a graduation or debutante photograph in the 1940s. Written on the photo are the words “Wishing You the Best of Luck Barbara.” We don’t know if the woman’s name is Barbara or if that is the person whom she is writing the message to. It could be read either way. The photography studio information at right is the part I was able […]

1950s pinup

1950s Bathing Beauty Pin-up Style This is such a classic vintage photograph of a lovely woman posing in her bathing suit for a home photo. Who was she posing for? Was she just out working on her tan? Or was she near a lake or beach? So many questions raised by one photo! Sadly there is no information on the back of this photo so our questions will remained unanswered. Every Throwback Thursday we share a vintage photo of […]

Lovely day in the park

IMG_7221a

A few weekends ago we ventured out for a small performance at Hyder Park in Nob Hill as part of a fundraiser for our friends, Sage and Jared’s Happy Gland Band. It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon for some live music and food in the park! We performed ‘All I Do’ and ‘Muskrat Ramble,’ both in a much scaled down way since we couldn’t all make it to the event. No performance can be problem free, and on this day […]

A Tribute to Carmen Miranda

Carmen Miranda - 5

This past weekend at Nob Hill’s Summerfest we debuted our newest routine, Chica Boom. The song was originally performed by Carmen Miranda in That Night in Rio (1941). We used a slightly different recording of the song for our routine. By doing a tribute to Carmen Miranda, our costumes had to look the part. With our soloist in a vintage mermaid gown and massive headpiece, the rest of us wore many ruffles and piled our own hair up high with […]

How to Throw a Great Gatsby Party, Part 2

Gatsby Party Paper Moon

Wow what a party! Thank you so much to everyone who came out to support us and revel in a night straight out of the 1920s! First check out a few photos from our party to see what how the night went.   Location: We were so lucky to be able to use the TangoXchange space here in Albuquerque. It’s a local tango studio located in a old brick walled, tin ceiling, store front right on Central Avenue (Rt. 66). […]

How to Throw a Great Gatsby Party, Part 1

Great Gatsby Party

We Sweet Jubilee Girls have been excitedly counting down the days until the release of the new Great Gatsby movie. Being released this past weekend, wouldn’t you know we had a performance the same night it opened? A few of us trekked to the movies over the weekend to see it even though we missed opening night. The costumes, the sets, the actors, everything was so spectacular. Even without the old jazz music, it was still quite awesome. Every time […]

The Rumble at Marble Brewery

Food Truck Rumble - Tears

Last Wednesday Sweet Jubilee dug out our glad rags, okay maybe ours are not so buried, to be part of Inhabitants of Burque’s Food Truck Rumble hosted at Marble Brewery. The theme of the rumble was 1920s/1930s. A live jazz band,¬†Zoltan the Incredible and His Royal Two Man Pirate Circus Band, four local food trucks throwing it down by each serving an incredible meal paired with a brew by Marble, a fun photo booth (see us in the booth), us […]
