1940s picnic

1940s Picnic This has to be one of my favorite vintage photographs found thus far. The scan here does not do the print justice. The composition and the natural light are just stunning. I would guess who ever took this photo was pretty skilled with the camera. So now let’s look at the photo a little closer. The woman on the left has her hair tied up and appears to be wearing a playsuit. If you look really closely at their […]

1940s bathing palm

1940S Bathing Beauty with Palm Tree Bathing Suit This lovely palm tree lady is our Throwback Thursday snapshot of the day on this hot hot week. My mother found this vintage photograph in an antique mall and I’ve been saving it for a prime time summer appearance. We have no clues as to her location, but who cares! We’re highly distracted by her marvelous palm tree bathing suit! I mean how amazing is it?! I believe I may have found a […]

1930s girls

1930s Girls It’s Throwback Thursday! We missed a week last Thursday, sorry about that! Today we bring you a photo of two girls from the 1930s. Don’t you just love their dresses? Unfortunately, the photograph gives us no clues as to the identities of the girls. Every Throwback Thursday we share a vintage photograph of a woman (or group of women) and try to figure out her (their) back story. See you all next week! CHECK OUT PAST WEEK’S LOVELY […]

The Summer of Vintage

summer of vintage 3

THANK YOU We’ve had an awesome summer for our etsy store and it’s not over yet! We’re gearing up some new routines and are so happy to have stable funding to build the costumes we’ve been dreaming of. So this is first and foremost a thank you to everyone who has supported our vintage clothing store on etsy! This summer we have decided to move our store into a slightly different direction. We will only be selling vintage dresses […]

1939 couple

1939 Couple Printed on April 16, 1939, today’s throwback Thursday vintage photograph shows a woman laughing at possibly what the man next to her has just said. We won’t know for sure if they were a couple, but it seems like they were getting along well enough if even they weren’t. The photograph captures a lovely little moment between these two. The stamp on the back of the photo reads “Crystal White Print APR 16, 1939 by Nosset.” Most likely the […]

1940s women

1940s Ladies This is a great photo of two women in the 1940s. Their hair and clothes are most definitely 40s. As an avid collector of 1940s dresses, I love the dress on the right. The 1940s saw a lot of that kind of novelty print in the fashion. I wish the photo had a date, or place, or names on the back, but alas it does not. The backdrop looks like New Mexico, but we won’t know for sure. Every Throwback […]

1950s bar

Don’t Fall Off These two ladies from the 1950s look like they were having a grand time one night! Hopefully they were able to stay balanced on their stools while enjoying some good laughter. It appears that they are seated at a bar, possibly at a social hall of sorts. There is no information on the back of this photo unfortunately. Every Throwback Thursday we share a vintage photograph of a woman (or group of women) and try to figure out her (their) back […]

1940s sophie claire both

Claire & Sophie in Annapolis, Md This week’s Throwback Thursday is a set of photos. They were both taken the same day as evidenced by their clothes. I believe Claire Barsky and Sophie, wearing the metallic looking dress, were hanging out around the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., based on the building behind them in the photo to the left. That building appears to be Bancroft Hall, which is currently the largest single dormitory in the world (according to wikipedia). In […]

1920s girls

1910s/1920s Have a Seat Pull up a window, rest your feet and let’s chat. This seems to be what the girls are doing in today’s Throwback Thursday photo. Two friends just sitting and chatting and not too posed. The photo isn’t even in perfect focus. A very laid back photograph that could possibly be candid. No information on the back of the photo gives us any clues about the identity of the girls. The photo is most likely from the late 1910s or […]

1920s young girls

1932 Young Girls Today’s Throwback Thursday brings us back to 1932, for the second week in a row. The photograph was printed March 28, 1932 as indicated by a stamp on the back that also reads “A Briliantone Print.” The young girls are Martha Howard (at left) and Shirley Garviga? Yes, that question mark is written on the back of the photo too. The spelling of Shirley’s last name is very hard to read and I’m guessing the writer was just unsure. Unfortunately […]
